Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) secured their place in the UEFA Champions League next season with a convincing victory over Lyon at the Parc des Princes on Saturday evening.
The French champions, who were already confirmed as one of the four automatic qualifiers for the group stage of the competition, took control of the game early and never looked back.
PSG's top scorer Neymar scored twice to help his side move two points clear of second-placed Lyon, who lost 1-0 at home to Lille.
Lens, meanwhile, remained firmly in second spot after a narrow 1-0 win against Nice at the Stade Vélodrome.
The result means that PSG will face either Ajax or Benfica in the round-of-16 draw, while Lens will play either Manchester United or Barcelona.
Despite their impressive performance, PSG coach Thomas Tuchel admitted that it was not without its challenges.
"We had to be very careful because we knew that this is a difficult match," he said. "We had to work hard and we did that."
For Lens manager Christophe Galtier, the defeat was a reminder of how far his team still have to go.
"It's always difficult when you lose but we need to keep working and improving," he said. "We're going to take this defeat as motivation for our next games."
In other matches, Marseille beat Montpellier 4-1 at the Stade Velodrome, while Monaco beat Rennes 2-0 at the Stade Louis II.
Overall, it was another exciting week in Ligue 1 as teams fought for positions in Europe's elite club competitions.
