Lille have defended their title in the French league with a narrow win over Ajaccio on Sunday.
The Lille fans were delighted after their victory, which was also the first time they had won at home since the start of the season.
The team's manager, Laurent Blanc, praised his players for their hard work and determination to come back from a poor performance against Bordeaux earlier in the week.
"We have to take every game seriously," he said. "We can't afford to lose this one."
After a promising start to the season, Lille lost two consecutive games before defeating Ajaccio.
"It was difficult at times but we always tried to be positive and keep fighting," said Jonathan David, who scored his first goal of the season.
"I felt that we needed more goals than we got, so I was pleased when we did get them."
David's goal came in the 89th minute, after Lille had been awarded a penalty kick following a foul by Ajaccio's defender.
"It was a great chance for us to score," said David, who played well throughout the match.
"Everyone is happy with how we've performed, especially my teammates. We're still working hard and improving."
The win will give Lille some much-needed motivation ahead of their next game against Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday.
"We need to perform better," said Blanc.
"But we're not done yet. There's still plenty of football left to play."
